Earth Day Dallas hopes to catalyze a "green" movement in North Texas by staging a two-day event on April 22nd and 23rd over several city blocks in the Dallas Arts District.  We anticipate 500 civic, corporate and non-profit participants engaged in an event that will be the biggest and best Earth Day celebration in this part of the United States.  Sponsors currently include:

This will be the seminal event in an ongoing movement to showcase green business and civic efforts that improve North Texas and the lives of North Texans.  Events will focus on entertaining, inspiring and educating attendees with various ways to think, work and live green by showcasing emerging green technology and providing eco-friendly activities.

Give your skin the luxurious treatment it deserves when you learn how to make your own hand-crafted soaps. David Fisher, Guide to Candle and Soap Making at About.com, will show you the basics of making custom soaps from scratch. You will learn the basics of soap making and how to make your own bars of soap in a wide range of styles and scents. Join us for this fun demonstration class and go home with instructions, materials and supplies to continue this enjoyable pastime at home.

Basket weaving is one of the oldest known utilitarian arts. Using natural materials, Anna Barry, owner of The White Rock Weaving Center, will introduce you to the art of basketweaving. This project, which is perfect for beginners, will allow you to create a small basket that can be used for dinner rolls, napkins or other small treasures. No prior experience in necessary and all basketry materials will be included. Join us to explore this historic and easy to learn art.

Join Nature Center Director Suzanne Tuttle and volunteers from the Cross Timbers Master Naturalist chapter for a walk through the wildflowers during the annual Prairie Fest at beautiful Tandy Hills Natural Area in east Fort Worth. Each year the park, which is a satellite area managed by the Nature Center staff, is home to one of the most spectacular wildflower displays in our area. Entrance to the festival is at the corner of Tandy and View Streets; wildflower walks begin on demand from the Nature Center’s booth. FREE.

We invite preschoolers, ages 3 - 5 and their adult companions to join us in discovering the exciting world of nature.
In April, we will be learning about honeybees. Pre-registration required. $10 PER CHILD (includes admission fee)/MEMBERS $5.

Join and assist our curator who will be taking inventory of the various CCC structures on site. This will require some
walking along the roads and trails in order to locate, document, and photograph historic culverts, latrines, and more. Maximum – 5 participants. Pre- registration required. FREE (with paid admission).

After a long winter, spring brings many delights, including our annual wildflowers. Join a naturalist who will take you to the best spots to observe these beauties. Bring your camera as this may be a great opportunity to take pictures of the famous Texas
Bluebonnets. $5 (with paid admission)/MEMBERS FREE.

Come and join us for a different type of Canoe Tour in the evening hours. This program will present new opportunities like
hearing beavers slap the water with their tails and seeing other wildlife, like deer and raccoons. Canoes, paddles and lifejackets are provided. Children must be 5 years or older. Parents must sign a liability waiver for minor children. Some previous experience recommended. Registration ends Tuesday preceding or when filled. Maximum - 12 participants. Explore nature at nightfall, as evening provides a unique opportunity to view animals that make the Nature Center home. Bring water and wear weather appropriate clothing.
