What: Second Free Screening of "The Power of Community"

When: Thursday, May 5, 2011 7:00 PM

Where: Horizon Unitarian Universalist Church,
1641 W Hebron Pkwy,
Carrollton, TX 75010

Why: This is the story of Cuba, and how its people, in the wake of
the Soviet Union's collapse, pulled together as communities to provide for accessible, healthy food for all, and changing their transportation model to bicycles and public transport.

When the Soviet Union collapsed in 1990, Cuba's economy went into a tailspin. With imports of oil cut by more than half – and food by 80 percent – people were desperate. This film tells of the hardships and struggles, as well as the community and creativity of the Cuban people. They share how they transitioned from highly mechanized agriculture to using organic farming and urban gardens. It is an unusual look into the Cuban culture during this economic crisis.

It’s Peak Season for Inspiration!

Inspiring minds through nature and science is what we do best. And in
the summertime, there’s no place like the Museum of Nature &
Science to give kids the hands-on fun they need to stretch their minds,
explore their world, and open their eyes to amazing possibilities!
Share the discovery with your child in our Little Explorers, watch
their independence blossom in our half-day Discovery Camp, Jr., or give
their ingenuity and creativity a chance to really shine in our
full-day Discovery Camp. For kids from 6 months to 6th grade, our
summer programs provide the perfect framework to come and explore!
