Organizers for Dallas County Community College District’s fourth annual Sustainablity Summit are seeking presenters for the April 16 event at North Lake College in Irving through the end of this week.

This year’s theme is Beyond Seven Generations, referring to the Iroquois’s notion of looking seven generations ahead to decide whether decisions today will benefit future generations.

According to Ann Hatch, director of media relations for DCCCD, sustainable entrepreneurs, municipal leaders and environmental advocates are encouraged to help educate participants regarding their areas of expertise.

“It’s open to all members of the community, anyone who’s interested in sustainable topics and issues,” said Ann Hatch, director of media relations for DCCCD.

There will be 20 breakout sessions during the event. Each session will be 45 minutes. Presenters can invite co-presenters or bring in a panel for discussion.

In addition, there will also be poster presentations displayed throughout the day, with informal sessions scheduled with poster creators.

Topics covered include everything from green living and urban agriculture to environmental justice and green careers.

“It’s a broad base for topics. We invite people if they have some area of experience or expertise to go ahead and submit something.”

The free event has grown each year and this year they’re expecting more than 400 people to attend. The keynote speaker is Toby Hemenway, the author of Gaia’s Garden: A Guide to Home-Scale Permaculture.

Submit your proposal by filling out this form, providing a brief summary of your topic, target audience and any equipment required. Send to William Videtto, Administrative Assistant, Business Services, North Lake College, 5001 N. MacArthur Blvd., Irving, TX 75038 or wvidetto@dcccd.edu.

Deadline for proposals is Friday, Jan. 31. You will receive notification on the status of your submission by Feb. 7. Call 972-273-3390 for more information.
