Celebrate the start of spring with family and friends and “leave no one inside” at our new and improved one-day outdoor spring festival – “Celebrate Nature.” We will continue to feature “green” vendors as well as other vendors who want to support nature and The Heard, live concerts, interactive animal presentations, kids’ activities, guided trail tours, and canoe/kayak demonstrations. Guests will also enjoy our “Live Animals of the World” and “Animal Superheroes” exhibits, and the butterfly garden.

 ACTIVITIES

  • Free Admission to McKinney Residents! Please provide proof of residence with current utility bill or valid driver's license.

  • Stop by each booth and get a stamp for your “Vendor Black Out Bingo” game card that all guests receive from our front desk. Once completed, turn your card back into our front desk for great giveaways, including a free ice cream cone coupon from The Purple Cow and/or a special gift from Cabellas while supplies are available.

  • Recycling Fashion Show at 1pm.  Kids in kindergarten through 5th grade can show off their most “g-littering” fashions created from recyclable materials! 1st through 3rd place will win prizes:
         1st -- Sand Dollar Lifestyles $50 gift card

         2nd -- Sand Dollar Lifestyles $40 gift card

         3rd -- Sand Dollar Lifestyles $30 gift card

    All participants will receive a 20% off coupon to the Heard Nature Store!

  • Enjoy lunch, home-made desserts, fresh-squeezed lemonade or ice tea from Coffee N Cream from 10:30am-3pm.  Cash only please.
    • $8 for box lunches - Chicken Salad, Turkey and Provolone, and Ham and Swiss.  Served with Chips and a Cookie
    • $1.50 for cakeballs and brownies
    • $1 for cookies
    • $1.50 for fresh-squeezed lemonade iced tea
  • Blackland Prairie Raptor Center Live Show from 10:45 to 11:30 a.m.

  • McKinney Community Band Live Concert from 12:00 p.m. to 1 p.m.

  • Tuned In Live Concert from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

  • Live Animal Presentations by The Heard and the DFW Wildlife Coalition 
          - Heard Presentation -- 9:45 to 10:15 a.m.
          - Racoon Nation by DFWWC -- 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
          - Coyotes Presentation by DFWWC -- 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
          - Squirrel Wars Presentation by DFWWC -- 1:30 to 3 p.m.
          - Heard Presentation -- 1:45 to 2:15 p.m.
          - Building of squirrel boxes led by DFWWC -- 3 to 4 p.m.

  • Canoe and Kayak “Try-Its” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

  • Guided Trail Tours throughout the day

  • Kid’s Activities including inflatables

  • Numerous “nature-inspired” artisans and vendors on hand selling and showcasing their work including a David Saloman, author of Penguin-Pedia, a Hungarian Woodcarver, local honey products, and hand-crafted jewelry made of sterling silver, semi-precious and precious stones.

  • Even more business vendors including Green Mountain Energy, REI & More

  • Volunteers for the Dallas Paleo Society will be on hand giving out FREE fossils for the kids or bring in your own fossils for identification by experts.  In addition, kids will receive FREE "FBI" kits (Fossil Bureau of Investigation) and their booth will feature LOCAL MATERIAL DISPLAY  and GEOLOGICAL TREASURES.  Fossils and kits available while supplies last.
