Wildlife management, issues, support, and rehabilitation

Chris Jackson, founder of DFWUrbanWildlife.com, leads this meetup. The plan will be to walk into the Village Creek Drying Beds as a group and then hike along the top of the berm that surrounds the property. We will cover most of the perimeter from the elevated vantage point the berm provides. There should be lots of great wildlife to see, and we will stop whenever we come across something interesting.

Learn how to create a garden to attract and support monarch butterflies on their journey north in the spring as well as their migration south in the fall. This class explains the monarch migration and the perils the butterflies face in the US and Mexico. Find out about conservation efforts and how you (or your class) can get involved in citizen science projects.

Purple Martins and humans have a special connection that goes back hundreds of years. Purple Martins thrill people in a variety of ways throughout their life cycle. This presentation will cover that life cycle, dispel some of the myths surrounding martins, touch on some of the recent research findings and highlight some of the ways that birders and non-birders alike can connect with this spectacular bird. A special invitation has also been extended to visit the stunning migration roost in Austin.
