Lake Highlands Elementary is hosting its annual Recycling Event to raise money for a learning garden. They will be accepting most electronics in any condition, documents for destruction, and household items such as clothing, sporting goods, toys and games, books, and musical instruments.  [No old TVs, old computer monitors (CRTs), large appliances, chemicals or furniture, please.] 

There is no charge to drop off electronics or household items. They request $5 per box of documents for shredding to support the learning garden.

Containers larger than 5 gallons will NOT be accepted.
No more than 50 pounds of batteries can be dropped off per day.

Join this presentation to consider some low hanging fruit in resource recovery trends in the state of Texas and the country and find out how individuals can make a difference. 

Debbie Branch is part of the Fort Worth Sustainability Team working to forward sustainability initiatives in Fort Worth. She has 11 years in the resource recovery industry and received the 2013 Green Source DFW Sustainability Leadership Award for a non-profit professional. Debbie has written successful grant applications totaling more than $430,000 to increase recycling, including electronics, in Fort Worth and the DFW area and is currently the chair of the Texas Product Stewardship Council.

This community-wide clean up and fair hosted by Keep Flower Mound Beautiful is held at the Flower Mound Home Depot, 852 Long Prairie Road. Be sure to stop by the Trinity Forks Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas plant sale from 10am-1pm, featuring hard-to-find native plants.

Residents can also drop off paper for shredding  and as well as housewares and electronics. 

The city of Irving hosts its annual green film fest as an alternative to the outdoor fairs. Three venues are showing 19 environmental films with something for everyone. Movies include the classic Revenge of the Electric Car, American Made Movie and several nature family films. See website for complete schedule. 

Earth Day Texas (formerly, Earth Day Dallas) is an annual, outdoor festival seeking to elevate environmental awareness and influence the way Texans think, live and work. The family-friendly and free-admission event allows leaders in the corporate, academic and non-profit worlds to unite and show Texans how green lifestyle choices can lower their cost of living, improve their health, and help save the environment.

The heart of the festival is the Eco Expo where exhibitors will use their presence to promote their achievements as green leaders, and teach attendees how to take environmentally responsible action by better utilizing available resources, switching to eco-friendly products, or joining their organizations.
