Because our buildings have such a profound impact on our lives, the way we live is changing. The manner in which we use our buildings, their architectural design and how they are constructed necessitates a change to a more sustainable approach.

This class provides an interactive discussion where a panel of subject matter experts and you, the participants, will discuss renewable energy and high-performing green buildings. The class will conclude with a discussion of future building codes, standards, and government regulations, which will answer the question "What industry changes are pending?"

After this course, participants will be able to:

  • Compare and explain the differences between the available green building rating systems.
  • Identify and apply best practices and appropriate technology to
achieve Indoor Environment Quality and Water Efficiency goals.Identify
potential areas for increased use of recycled materials, ways to limit
construction debris, and sources for regionally produced products.
  • Evaluate potential building sites in order to select those suitable for responsible use or reuse.
  • Compare renewable energy options and choose the one(s) best suited for a particular project.
  • Understand and apply the locally appropriate green building codes and standards.
