Theologians teach us that as human beings, we first learn to take care of ourselves. Love Thyself Day Spa in Richardson goes a step further by teaching clients to love themselves and Earth in an eco-minded way.

Lisa Weeks, owner, says that clients definitely seek them out, because they are green.

“Not everybody [clients], but there’s a good number, especially when it comes to skincare,” Weeks says. “They want natural products on their body – it just feels right. You will hear them say that, and they look at our products.”

She explains that she looks for non-toxic beauty products, because they are good for people and the environment. Also, she purchases energy-saving equipment, which saves time, energy and water. Recycling in the spa’s office is also practiced as much as possible.

As an eco-friendly spa owner, Weeks comes with an impressive resume, having worked in the wellness industry for more than two decades, as well as having experience in the legal field, four years of nursing school and is a U.S. Army reserve veteran with a honorable discharge.

In early 2002, Love Thyself Day Spa was established in Weeks’ home. In March 2003, the spa moved into its first 300-square-feet location. In November 2004, a second 1,000-square-feet location was opened. And in summer 2010, its current 2,000-square feet location in Richardson opened.

The spa puts special emphasis on healing through nature.

“That’s what it’s all about at the most basic level,” Weeks notes. “Wellness addresses body, mind and spirit and is exemplified when a person seeks health at the highest level of their being.”

Love Thyself Day Spa started as green, because Weeks was introduced to veganism in massage school and followed in a full-fledged way.

Love Thyself Day Spa Vegan Food“The places for which I worked used and sold natural holistic products. When I became vegan about 21 years ago, I became very conscious of what we do to the Earth and started thinking more about our environment. It was easy to commit to a lifestyle about which I’m passionate, knowing that I’m helping the environment.”

She explains that when a person takes measures for the betterment of the Earth, it relates to wellness and saying green refers to conserving.

“I am conscious all the time of staying green, and as I conduct my business, I constantly think along those lines,” she says. “I think the greenest thing you can do is to eat a vegan diet, especially raw food, which takes less energy in preparation.”

Because clients sometimes spend hours at the spa and because there are group spa parties, special events and classes, clients can purchase healthy food prepared by a qualified chef. First, the chef gives the client a questionnaire, inquiring as to dietary restrictions, favorite foods, etc.

“We’re trying to get them to consume certain types of foods such as vegetables, fruits and certain grains, teaching principles about a vegan lifestyle and basic foods,” she says. “Selected foods depend on each issue. Some may want food prepared for a certain amount of time. Examples include green salads, fruit salads, raw vegan wraps, nori (type of seaweed) wraps, soups, dehydrated snacks, juicing and smoothie drinks.”

Plant-based foods help with less disease, increased energy, better digestion, better elimination, longevity, quality of life, high energy and overall good health.

Love Thyself Day Spa not only is eco-friendly, but charitable.

“We do a lot of charitable events,” Weeks shares. “Sometimes we give services to non-profits such as domestic violence victims, teaching them about self-care and giving them self-esteem.”
