Dallas Arboretum: Cool Thursdays Concert Series - Dallas

All concerts are held on the Martin Rutchik Concert Stage & Lawn. Gates open at 6 p.m. Concerts are 7:30-9:30 p.m. for Spring/Summer concerts and from 7 - 9 p.m. for Fall concerts. Garden closes at the conclusion of each concert.

In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be moved inside to Rosine Hall. Due to limited space, inside seating is based on a first come, first served basis. Guests are encouraged to arrive early, bring low-to-the-ground chairs and blankets as no seating is provided. A determination of weather-altered plans will be made by 3 p.m. on the day of the concert. Check our homepage or ourFacebook page for updates the day of the concert.

Perot Museum: Giant Gems of the Smithsonian - Dallas

Never before seen together, approximately two dozen magnificent, Texas-sized gems from the Smithsonian’s world-renowned National Gem Collection will be on display in the Lyda Hill Gems and Minerals Hall on Level 3. The mineral masterpieces, many weighing over 1,000-plus carats, include an “American Golden” topaz that tips the scales at almost 23,000 carats (more than 10 pounds), a blue topaz “football” of nearly 7,000 carats, kunzite Tiffany necklace, a Mogul emerald diamond necklace and more. This temporary installation will mark the first time such a large collection of Smithsonian gems, some of which have never been displayed in any museum, will be on exhibit outside the famed Washington museum complex. Giant Gems of the Smithsonian is free with Museum general admission.

Texas artist Deborah Paris’ exciting new exhibit of paintings and drawings, The Nature of Things: Daphne Prairie, will give the Fort Worth public a rare opportunity to see depictions of the untouched and historic Daphne Prairie located in east Texas. An opening reception with live music, hors d’oeuvres and libations will be held on Fall Gallery Night, Sept. 10, from 4-9pm. A gallery talk by the artist will take place Sept.10 at 6 p.m.

The city of Dallas has launched their Property Assessed Clean Energy Finance Program. Join the Dallas 2030 District to learn more about the insider details of the new financing tool, as far as the mechanics of the application process and the specifics of PACE Commercial Real Estate. The session will be broken into a panel discussion with an introduction, first, from a dignitary from the city of Dallas. Then, Jonathon Blackburn, managing director for the Texas Pace Authority will review PACE financing for commercial building owners and tenants, followed by a detailed discussion of the tax liabilities and real estate law perspective from Ted Benn, Thompson and Knight. Last, Genevieve Rose Sherman, managing director, PACE Financial Services, will review the details of the Dallas PACE program from a lender perspective and open the discussion up for questions.

An evolution of the annual Smartscape Tour of Coppell, the Sustainable Home and Garden Tour will expand to include features such as solar, rain water catchments, compost methods and backyard habitats in addition to Smartscape design. The idea of this self-guided yard tour is to provide people the opportunity to talk to homeowners about the real impact of investing in features that can be both beneficial to the environment and cost saving. Tour goers will be able to attend all five stops or pick and choose locations that are most relevant to their interests. People who visit all stops however, will have the opportunity to complete a scavenger hunt that will qualify them to win a rain barrel or compost bin from the city of Coppell.

Free. Pick up a map from Helping Hands Community Garden between 8 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. The first 100 people will receive a green living giveaway.
