More than 30 environmental enthusiasts turned out for the Green Source DFW Summer Mixer on July 18 at The People’s Last Stand in Dallas.

This week, Green Source DFW kicks off the fun with a get-together on Thursday for the green set. On Saturday, you can visit a real butterfly farm or sink your teeth into a course on edible wild plants at the Bob Jones Nature Center. You can also help some local big cats by picking up some treats at a fundraising bake sale.

We found some cheap deals this week that’ll motivate you to leave the comfort of your AC to get outdoors and explore nature. You might even be lured to venture out on a Sunday after dark to view the night sky.

Looking ahead, there are happenings for all ages to love this week. While up-and-coming conservationists can mingle at a new networking group, kids will enjoy close encounters with reptiles and adults can take a crash course in preparing food the way Grandma did.

Last Saturday at Recycle Revolution in Deep Ellum, a collection of environmentalists, friends of owners Eddie Lott and Maria Lott, customers of their recycling business and the eco-friendly Deep Ellum community spent the afternoon partaking of the "hair of the dog" cure and relaxing after the frenetic pace of Earth Day. Translation: free beer, food trucks, live music and a whole lotta happy people. Here are pictures from the day:
