The Wheeler County Historical Commission and the Old Mobeetie, Texas Association will host the recognition ceremony of a Wheeler County historic tree on the Old Mobeetie Jail Museum grounds. The mulberry tree has been recognized by the Texas Historic Tree Coalition as being more than 130 years old. Over the years, the tree has become known as “the Temple Houston Tree.” It was planted by the youngest son of Sam Houston when he lived in Old Mobeetie as a memorial to his daughter. You’re invited to bring your lawn chairs and come hear the story of this wonderful old tree as a stone marker is unveiled and a certificate and resolution is presented.

Parking is available at the Old Mobeetie Jail, and the walk to the tree is about 200 yards from the lot.
