HIKE: Noon to 3:30 pm

Weather permitting, we will explore NPAT’s latest acquisition, Paul Mathews Prairie near Greenville, with prairie experts. Wear long pants, sturdy hiking shoes, bug repellent, and sunscreen. Because of the deep gilgais, a walking stick is recommended. There are bathroom facilities to change clothes at The Landmark on Lee Street.

To reserve your spot on the field trip, contact Kirsti Harms at info@texasprairie.org or 512-392-2288.

CELEBRATION: 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Gather with prairie defenders at The Landmark on Lee Street (rotarypostoffice.org), a historic post office renovated by the Rotary Club, and enjoy a catered barbecue dinner and beverages, including beer and wine. A vegetarian option is available. Bring along your favorite sweet delight for our Dessert Potluck and feel free to share your recipe.

The deadline for barbecue has passed, but there's still time to join the party. We'll have frito pie and other goodies for latecomers! To register and for more information, email office@texasprairie.org.

In addition to our annual meeting, we will celebrate NPAT’s latest acquisition: Paul Mathews Prairie near Greenville. This 100-acre old-growth Blackland Prairie boasts a gamagrass/switchgrass/indiangrass plant community in a vertisolic (gumbo clay) soil with exceptionally deep plentiful gilgais. The Nature Conservancy holds the conservation easement.

See website for more history of the prairie and event details.
