This workshop will focus on the Brazos River and is provided by the National Resource Conservation Service or NRCS, a division of the USDA. It is being sponsored by the Chalk Mountain Wildlife Association, Prairie Rose Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas, and Friends of The Brazos.

Participants will learn the basic interaction of Hydrology-Erosion/ Deposition and Vegetation for Texas creeks and rivers. Among topics to be covered are channels, floodplains, water table, vegetation, base flow, flood flow, sediment and how these things combine to form the Riparian Area. The term "Proper Functioning Condition" or PFC will be discussed with examples to promote understanding of the health of the waterway. In addition to its many functions, the Brazos River is a vital component of tourism dollars to Somervell County. This workshop can guide us toward a healthy riparian landscape plan to secure that income for generations to come.

Resource materials that enhance understanding of riparian area function will be provided to all participants. Fee to attend includes lunch. $15 per participant at the door. Please use the attached form to register so lunch count will be correct. $10 registration by mail with a check if postmarked by October 5, 2018, Friday. Please make checks out to PRC: Riparian Workshop. Mail to Somervell County Riparian Workshop, PO Box 272, Rainbow, TX 76077.

The workshop begins promptly at 8:30 AM so please arrive early to allow check in time.

The field portion of the workshop will be held near the Glenlake Camp and Retreat Center. Be prepared for chiggers, uneven terrain, and heat. Wear long pants, a hat, and sturdy shoes. Consider sunscreen, hiking stick, and insect spray as desired. Bring water.
