Racing Extinction is an eco-thriller that investigates humanity's role in mass extinction. Academy Award-winning documentary filmmaker Louie Psihoyos joins scientists, environmentalists, artists and engineers to draw attention to the causes and breadth of accelerated extinction occurring today, both from obvious threats, such as overfishing in the illegal animal trade and subtler dangers that stem from global warming.  A strong case for the latter is supported by comparison of current greenhouse gas levels with data from previous mass extinctions.  The scope of life now endangered, from plankton and coral reefs to frogs and turtles to manta rays and sharks, and the impact that this scale of loss has on the human food chain and even the oxygen we need to breathe, is examined.  Difficult as it is to address the problems, progress has been made with some species, and as Jane Goodall concludes, there’s still a lot left worth fighting for.
