Earth Day Dallas hopes to catalyze a "green" movement in North Texas by staging a two-day event on April 22nd and 23rd over several city blocks in the Dallas Arts District.  We anticipate 500 civic, corporate and non-profit participants engaged in an event that will be the biggest and best Earth Day celebration in this part of the United States.  Sponsors currently include:

    * The Environmental Protection Agency
    * D Magazine
    * The Nature Conservancy
    * Chevrolet
    * Dallas Independent School District
    * Half Price Books

This will be the seminal event in an ongoing movement to showcase green business and civic efforts that improve North Texas and the lives of North Texans.  Events will focus on entertaining, inspiring and educating attendees with various ways to think, work and live green by showcasing emerging green technology and providing eco-friendly activities.

    * Up to 50,000 visitors in the downtown Arts District (accessible by DART).
    * Exhibitors will include environmental groups, businesses and universities.
    * A Tesla Roadster and other electric and hybrid vehicles will be on display.
    * Chevrolet will build a track for test drives in the new Chevy Volt.
    * Recharging stations for electric vehicles will be set up to educate people on how these work.
    * TCU will be showcasing their popular “green roof” technology.
    * Our speaker series includes: David Crane (CEO of NRG Energy), Pete McCloskey (Former State Representative from California who co-authored the Endangered Species Act of 1973), Steven Hamburg (Chief Scientist for the Environmental Defense Fund), Dorka Keehn (Author of ECO AMAZONS: Twenty Women Who Are Transforming the World ), Peter Lehner (Executive Director of the Natural Resources Defense Council) to name a few.
    * Sustainable food & beverage vendors and entertainment (ecoFilms, live music, bike rally, green art zones for kids) will be available.

The goal of Earth Day Dallas is to make this into an annual summit for the region - a catalyst for knowledge-sharing and change.  The best source for more information about the event is the website:  http://www.earthdaydallas.org/.
