National Bike to Work Day is Friday, May 20, and to prepare you, the Dallas Public Library is offering a 2-day workshop covering the essentials of riding your bike for transportation. The class will be held May 11 and May 17 at 6:30 pm

We’ll discuss:

• What kind of bike do I ride? How do I carry stuff? Where and how do I lock my bike?

• What do I do about sweat? Do I have to wear special clothes? What if I can’t shower/change at work? What if I get a flat tire?

• Is it safe to ride on the street? How do I find a safe and comfortable route? How do I safely ride with traffic? How do I use my bike with public transportation? How do I ride at night?

Certified instructors from the League of American Bicyclists will be on hand to answer your questions. Participants of all levels of experience, from seasoned commuter to curious newcomer, are welcome to come share their questions and insights. All participants will receive a free copy of the League of American Bicyclists Smart Cycling Quick Guide. Participants are welcome to bring their own food and drink.

We’ll follow the discussion with a brief group ride to demonstrate and practice some of the fundamentals of safe riding. Participation in the ride requires signing a waiver and having a working bike, helmet and lights.
