One week after the second nationwide global climate strike on Black Friday, Nov. 29, youth climate strikers and activists, joined by allies from across DFW, will march and host a Greater Dallas Climate Action Strike/Rally in front of Dallas City Hall. The rally marks a day of global action as world leaders gather at COP25, the United Nation’s annual climate change conference in Madrid, Spain to fully develop the implementation guidelines of the 2015 Paris Agreement. President Trump has recently notified the UN, stating he intends to withdraw the U.S. from the Paris Agreement, making the U.S. the only country in the world which would not be part of the climate plan to keep warming to 1.5 degrees.

Youth from Townview High School, along with other local schools, environmental organizations, and citizen groups, will call upon cities, counties, school districts, public transit, businesses, and individuals within the DFW metroplex to take immediate and strong action on climate change. They will thank the City of Dallas for moving forward on a Comprehensive Environmental and Climate Action Plan (CECAP) and ask them to adopt effective and equitable solutions with a quick timeline. Recent science has indicated that we have less time than previously thought to slash greenhouse gas emissions before we pass a tipping point triggering abrupt, irreversible and severe climate changes. Students and groups are calling on everyone to take all available actions necessary to address this climate emergency.

The rally and strike are a part of the Fridays For Future and Sunrise Movement with eyes toward building their climate justice momentum into the critical 2020 election year. Fridays For Future's goal is to demand climate action worldwide while the Sunrise Movement's aim is to seek and support candidates who recognize the nation’s current climate emergency, embrace the Green New Deal, and commit to stand up to secure a safe and livable future for all nationwide.
