The Spring Electronics Recycling and Paper Shredding Event is held in conjunction with the City of Richardson’s Trash Bash at the Richardson Square Mall.
Since 2008, the Richardson Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association (RCPAAA) has held this event twice a year, to help keep paper and electronics out of the local landfill. In 2019, the combined events collected 42,000 pounds of electronics and 110,000 pounds of paper.
All forms of electronics are accepted with the exception of “tube-type” or “CRT” monitors/TVs. No hazardous material is accepted, including but not limited to batteries and liquids. All forms of paper are welcomed but please remove the paper from three-ring binders prior to arriving at the site.
This event is designed for homeowners rather than businesses. If we determine that the amount (exceeding a trunkload or car’s back seat) of shredding is business-related, we will ask for a minimum of $5 per box (banker’s style box).
While this event is open to all and is free, donations are appreciated to help us offset the costs of providing the shredding trucks and to assist in our mission of supporting the Richardson Police Department. Some of the projects to support the RPD include an annual RPD Appreciation Meal, scholarships to children of RPD employees, assistance with vet expenses for retired RPD K9s, gifts for new officers, gifts for retiring employees, and organized dinners with community groups to establish better relations.
