Join local art teacher and amateur naturalist Owen Curtsinger as he discusses his process of learning about local plants and animals through an artistic lens. Owen's curiosity about the ecology of Texas has led him to explore the his surroundings through illustrating them with pencil, pen and watercolor. He has researched, written and illustrated two zine publications, "Ecoregions of Texas" and "Rare Fauna of Texas," that explore various ecosystems of Texas and the endangered species that inhabit them. In this online lecture, Owen will walk us through his process of documenting, illustrating, and researching the world around him, as well as speak to the value of slowing down and looking at something with the eyes of an artist, no matter how much skill one has for the arts. His work can be found on www.owencurtsinger.com.
