Leadership (Nominee demonstrates leadership through example, knowledge, attitude)

CEO and co-founder of TreeHouse, Jason Ballard:

Jason Ballard has dedicated his life to working on big problems at the intersection of human civilization and the natural world, most notably as the co-founder and CEO of TreeHouse, the world's first home upgrade store.

As one of the most innovative retail companies creating positive change, TreeHouse has grown to become a major disruptor in the field of home improvement, a $1 trillion per year industry. The recently launched TreeHouse location in Dallas, TX is the world's first energy-positive big box store that produces more energy than it consumes giving back to the city of Dallas through solar panels, Tesla batteries, north-facing windows and other energy-efficient features. TreeHouse is also the first retailer of Tesla, Haiku Fans, Romabio paint, Nebia shower systems, Interface FLOR, and other ground-breaking building technologies and products.

Prior to co-founding TreeHouse, Ballard worked as a green builder in Boulder for two years and as an environmental consultant for ACRT. In addition to Ballard’s work as an environmental entrepreneur, he is a GLG Social Impact Fellow, a prestigious group of social entrepreneurs including TED speakers and former first-daughter Barbara Bush. Ballard serves on the Carbon War Room / Rocky Mountain Institute Energy Think Tank and was recently invited to join the Sustainability Advisory Council of NRG, the largest seller of green energy in the nation.

Jason embodies the spirit of fortitude and perseverance by participating in ultramarathons, most recently the Leadville 100, widely regarded as the Top 3 most difficult race in the world.

TreeHouse is a hub for everything tied to thoughtful building and has a mission to make homes beautiful, healthy and sustainable.

From Jason: “For our most pressing environmental and human health challenges, all roads lead to the home. Homes consume the highest amount of our resources like water and energy."
