The goal of Texas Nature Challenge is to get families and kids outdoors by visiting as many participating parks and nature areas in Texas as they can this summer.
At each site, participants complete activities designed for family fun and nature exploration. Participation prizes will be awarded at the closing ceremonies for the most sites visited, best scrapbook, best photo and more.

This is a joint photo safari between the Dallas Zoo and the Fossil Rim Wildlife Center at Glen Rose. The event includes a Photo Safari at the Zoo and an overnight stay with a morning Photo Safari at Fossil Rim. Accommodations are based on double occupancy and include all meals. Bison Feeding Hayride: Enjoy an old-fashioned hayride to the bison range where you
will get to see the bison up close and personal as staff assist in feeding them range
cubes. We will visit the hay barn where you can learn about our bison management practices.
During the entire hayride, we will discuss the habitats represented at the Nature
Center as well. Meet at the Hardwicke Interpretive Center. PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED.

Saving the Bay

Museum of Nature & Science is pleased to present a special preview screening of the upcoming Emmy-winning PBS Series Saving the Bay, followed by a panel discussion about local water issues in Dallas. This free event will be held in MNS's TI Founders IMAX® Theater in the Science Building.

The Film
Saving the Bay is scheduled to be broadcast nationally on PBS in prime time to coincide with Earth Week beginning Wednesday evening April 20, 2011 and continuing the next three Wednesday evenings through May 11th. When the series premiered in two parts on KQED/San Francisco October 8, 2009, it had the single highest rating of any PBS program in the nation the evening of its initial broadcast. Saving the Bay received four regional Emmy awards including for Best Documentary in May, 2010.

Earth Day Dallas hopes to catalyze a "green" movement in North Texas by staging a two-day event on April 22nd and 23rd over several city blocks in the Dallas Arts District.  We anticipate 500 civic, corporate and non-profit participants engaged in an event that will be the biggest and best Earth Day celebration in this part of the United States.  Sponsors currently include:

Birding 101 with Ben Jones

Few things are as interesting, lively and beautiful as birds. They brighten up the landscape and fill our gardens with their beautiful music. In this two part class, Ben Jones, State Director of Education for Audubon Texas, will introduce you to the birds that call the Arboretum and TRAC home. Ben will show you how to identify and keep track of the birds you see, how to use your binoculars and how to recognize different birds by their call. Following the lecture on the first week of class, you will take a leisurely stroll through the Arboretum in search of the many birds that reside in the White Rock Lake area. During the second week of class, Ben will take you on a birding walk to explore the wonderful trails at TRAC. Be sure to bring your binoculars and dress for the weather.
