This workshop is being co-hosted by the city of Denton and the Upper Trinity Conservation Trust. The training will focus on the nature and function of stream and riparian zones and the benefits and direct impacts from healthy riparian zones. The riparian education programs will cover an introduction to riparian principles, watershed processes, basic hydrology, erosion/deposition principles and riparian vegetation, as well as potential causes of degradation and possible resulting impairment(s), and available local resources including technical assistance and tools that can be employed to prevent and/or resolve degradation.

These one-day trainings in watersheds across the state include both indoor classroom presentations and outdoor walks along the creek.

The goal is for participants to better understand and relate to riparian and watershed processes, the benefits that healthy riparian areas provide, and the tools that can be employed to prevent and/or resolve degradation and improve water quality. At the conclusion of the training, participants will receive a certificate of completion.

Tandy Hills Natural Area and Stella Rowan Prairies have always been prairie, but they haven't always been protected.

How did they become protected? Someone took notice and the process was set in motion. We need people (anyone) to be our eyes. Yes, that's right, the prairie needs YOU to notice it! It doesn't matter if you don't know the difference between Johnson grass and Bluestem grass, we still need you.

The Native Prairies Association has been mapping prairies statewide and our chapter needs help with tagging the Fort Worth area. Once a prairie remnant is identified, an effort can be made to save it from development or to introduce the owner to conservation options in conjunction with development. Our area is being developed at an alarming rate and knowing what we have will give us an advocacy starting point for treasures yet to be discovered.

For years Jeff Williams has been involved in numerous area projects. Of special interest to ACC members are his roles in the River Legacy Foundation and the Johnson Creek Corridor Plan. In Arlington environmental issues rarely figure into the races, so we really don't know how green our candidates are. Here's a chance to learn about matters that concern all of us. In the interest of fairness, we also invited Mayor Bob Cluck, but he had a schedule conflict and won't be able to attend.
