The Solar Car Challenge is the top project-based STEM Initiative helping motivate students in science, engineering and alternative energy. The SCC Education Program developed in 1993 as a high school extra-curricular program, and later evolved into the Solar Car Challenge Foundation.

The end product of each 15-month education cycle is the Solar Car Challenge: a closed-track event at the world famous Texas Motor Speedway, or a cross country event designed to give students an opportunity to show the country the product of their efforts.

Presenter: Sharon Wilson, Gulf Region Organizer, EARTHWORKS Oil & Gas Accountability Project

Sharon is an expert — perhaps THE expert — on what is happening in the oil and gas fields of Texas and beyond. Among other things, she’s a Certified Optical Gas Imaging Thermographer. 

She will explain what that designation means and what the continuing and even expanding use of fracking has to do with both our hunger for energy and the profits oil and gas companies derive from that hunger.

The annual Green Source DFW Sustainable Leadership Awards honors North Texas' green businesses, professionals, organizations, nonprofits and volunteers. 

This year's honorary speaker is Lee Stetson as John Muir.
