Greater Fort Worth Sierra Club hosts Julia McCleeary of the Fort Worth City Planning Department, who will share the city’s plans to create a more pedestrian and bike friendly community, to promote a reduction in traffic congestion and increase physical activity.

An alternative way to kick off the holiday season. This casual paced bicycle ride explores back-roads, side-streets, multi-purpose trails and available bike lanes. Enjoy lunch at Chiloso, Russo’s Italian Kitchen, Urban Eatz or Panera Bread beforehand, then meet at the fountain around 1 pm. The ride will cover about 16 miles round trip with a break at Dal Rich (Whole Foods) shopping center.

Designed for beginners, class covers the types of bikes available and gear needed, along with an introduction to cycling safety and bike maintenance. Free.

Join TCU prof Dr. Helge Alsleben for a lively conversation and dialogue as we compare volcanic activity in Texas to volcanism along the "Ring of Fire,” the topic of the IMAX film. Explore general causes of volcanism and earthquakes, the modern setting of the Gulf Coast in the plate tectonic framework and the geologic history that explains modern earthquakes in Texas. Limited Seating ~ Free with Exhibition or IMAX admission.

Naturalist Bike Tour of the Refuge: Take a spin around the park with a naturalist and learn about the ecology and history of the area. This program is open to anyone who can ride a bike. Participants must provide their own bike and helmet. Orange safety vests will be provided. Participants must sign a liability release form. Route will be generally flat and cover about 10 miles; but participants may opt out early if needed.

Bring water and weather appropriate clothing. Pre-registration required. Meet at Refuge Service Center. FREE (with paid admission).

Ride the Southside to celebrate National Bike Month!

Bring the family to join the Southside Bike Ride at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 19. Enjoy the family friendly, leisurely ride through Fort Worth’s south side neighborhoods on the 8.8 mile route, or ride a shorter 5 mile course – both kicking off at One Safe Place, 777 W. Rosedale St. Activities include vendors and sponsor booths offering health and safety information, a kid’s bike rodeo and members of the Fort Worth police, bike patrol and fire departments will be on hand with their safety equipment. Proceeds from sponsorships and donations benefit the Fort Worth Police Bike Patrol Support Group.
