Keep Texas Beautiful: Don't Mess with Texas Scholarship - Application Deadline is March 31

This scholarship recognizes the achievements of high school seniors who have taken a leadership role to prevent litter in their schools and/or communities. Any Texas high school senior currently attending public, private or home school, and planning to pursue a two- or four-year degree at an accredited college or university next year, is eligible to apply.

Keep Texas Beautiful & TxDoT: Don't Mess with Texas Art Contest - Deadline April 24

Keep Texas Beautiful and the Texas Department of Transportation invite Texas students in kindergarten through 12th grade to submit their best litter prevention-inspired artwork to be considered for the Don’t mess with Texas Calendar. Students with the top 14 designs will have their work featured in the calendar. 

Each winner will also receive:

    •    Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1" tablet

    •    Gift basket with Buc-ee's merchandise

    •    Their artwork framed and returned

    •    Opportunity to have their artwork shared on Don’t mess with Texas and Keep Texas Beautiful websites and social media

    •    Teachers representing students who produce the top 14 designs will win a $100 H-E-B/Central Market gift card.

The contest is open to students in grades K-12. Submissions are due April 24.

Visit the Fort Worth Botanic Garden’s recently restored conservatory and watch butterflies emerge during “Butterflies in the Garden,” the largest exhibit of live, exotic butterflies in north central Texas. The six-week exhibit will be open daily, including Sundays. Find out more at FWBG.org

The 15-acre Native Texas Park features an assortment of trees, shrubs, flowers and grasses native to the Texas landscape. Free docent led Spring Tours, fourth Saturday 10 a.m. and  11 a.m., Feb.29, March 28 (CANCELED), April 25, May 30, June 27. Tours begin at the fountain in front of the Library.

5th annual Rhino Run features a timed 5K run/walk and a kids timed 1K run/walk. All proceeds go toward our work on the ground in south Africa. Hand-made rhino medals for category winners and glass rhino trophies for our overall M/F winners and runners-up. The race will start and finish in Parking Lot 3, just north of Amon Carter Stadium.

Take a serene walk through the forest preserve with leader David Parrish. David is a tree expert, especially our trees.He often leads Master Naturalists on tree identification walks.

Important information: The natural-surface trails are not stroller-compatible; everyone must be able to walk approximately 1 mile. Clothing: Even in the heat, wear long pants and sturdy shoes (no sandals) for your protection from poison ivy and thorns. Apply insect repellent. Bring water. All participants and the parents of minors must sign our Liability Waiver. All minors 16 yrs. and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

Greater Dallas Organic Garden Club: Pollinator Conservation in Dallas - Dallas

Brett Johnson, Senior Environmental Coordinator and Urban Biologist for the City of Dallas, will lead us through how The Dallas Park and Recreation Department is actively modifying park management practices to encourage bees, butterflies and hummingbirds. This includes utilizing community scientists to inventory species, increase wildflower areas, wildlife corridor expansion, prairie restoration, reduced chemical usage and outreach.

Bring your questions! There will be plenty of time for you to get them answered.
