Groundwork Dallas: Parks Cleanup Volunteer Opportunity - Dallas (Every Saturday)

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES EVERY SATURDAY

FIRST SATURDAY OF THE MONTH, 9 a.m. to noon

Join Groundwork Dallas at Hines Park, a hidden gem along Harry Hines Blvd. Help protect the park’s water feature, a haven for migratory birds as well as egrets and heron, by removing litter and debris.

Where:  Harry Hines Park, near the intersection of Harry Hines Blvd and Webb Chapel Extension. Parking is in the Xenco Laboratories Lot at 9701 Harry Hines Blvd, Dallas TX 75220

Please wear closed-toe shoes, pants, high socks and long sleeves.

Join Groundwork Dallas at Frasier Dam Recreation Area, a unique 116-acre urban wilderness. Help us restore and improve this area through litter clean-up and removal, trail building, and maintenance.

Where: 9300 Stemmons Fwy, Dallas, TX 75247. Take the I-35 South ramp off of Harry Hines Blvd; entrance is to the right just under the bridge.

Don't pour your holiday grease down the drain! Grease clogs your pipes and can even cause sewer backups. Protect your home, city and environment by recycling it during this regional collection event. Collected cooking oil and grease will be used to create biodiesel or turn it into biogas for energy production. Follow the signs on Wisteria Street and drop off your used oil at the collection station outside the gate near the dumpster.

Texas Master Naturalist Blackland Prairie Chapter: Texas Master Naturalist Training - McKinney (Registration Deadline Jan. 15)

Would you rescue a milkweed ?If the answer is yes, you just might be a Texas Master Naturalist!  

As a trained and certified Texas Master Naturalist you would be dedicated to the conservation, preservation, and restoration of Texas natural resources including native milkweed plants. 

The 2020 training class, sponsored by the Blackland Prairie Chapter of Texas Master Naturalist based in McKinney, begins in February 2020.  Completed applications will be accepted until January 15, 2020.  Learn more about why you might be a Texas Master Naturalist.

City of Mansfield: Household Hazardous Waste Drop Off - Mansfield (Thru Dec. 14)

The Environmental Collection Center is the City's permanent drop off facility for unwanted household hazardous materials (anything with a warning label), electronics and recyclables. This facility is operated by the City's Environmental Services Department and is open the second Saturday of every month from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., and the Thursday and Friday before the second Saturday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

North Texas Renewable Energy Group: Battery Technologies Compared - Dallas

The cost of batteries can be up to several times the costs of the balance of other solar electronics. We’ll look at the cost per kilowatt-hour of different battery chemistries over the life of the batteries, warranties, type of usage, and sizing batteries for the need. Discussion will also cover methods to reduce the battery size and cost by up to 50 percent.

Speaker Tom Brennan is co-founder and Engineering Manager of Sol-Ark, an inverter manufacturer based in Parker, Texas (north of Dallas). Tom has a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and has been in the solar industry for 10 years, the past six of which have been at Sol-Ark, and has a patent for Solar Panel mounting.
