Valley House Gallery & Sculpture Garden: Gail Norfleet: Made in Layers - Dallas (Thru Dec. 7)

Nov 2 2019 - 10:00am to Dec 7 2019 - 5:00pm
Valley House Gallery & Sculpture Garden
6616 Spring Valley Road
Dallas , TX

Plexiglass continues to be a foundational element in Gail Norfleet's work. The clear material is the surface upon which she applies paint and collage, and its inherent transparency allows light to illuminate multiple layers. Working on the front and back, and on two panels, creates a real space. In this exhibition, Norfleet places familiar still life subjects (flowers, vases, birds) in front of brightly rendered landscapes and surreal interiors. The subjects originating from life are playfully manipulated into impossible yet compelling compositions.

Artist Talk: Nov. 16 at 11 a.m.

City of Mansfield: Holiday Grease Roundup - Mansfield (Nov. 25 thru Jan. 6)

Nov 25 2019 - 12:00am to Jan 6 2020 - 11:45pm
Environmental Collection Center
616 S. Wisteria St.
Mansfield , TX

Don't pour your holiday grease down the drain! Grease clogs your pipes and can even cause sewer backups. Protect your home, city and environment by recycling it during this regional collection event. Collected cooking oil and grease will be used to create biodiesel or turn it into biogas for energy production. Follow the signs on Wisteria Street and drop off your used oil at the collection station outside the gate near the dumpster.

Climate Strike: Dallas

Dec 6 2019 - 3:00pm to 5:30pm
Dallas City Hall
1500 Marilla St
Dallas , TX

Hosted by: Townview High School Earthling Club, Sunrise Movement Dallas, Zero Hour Dallas, Fridays For Future, Booker T. Washington High School Political Activism Club and Black Student Union, 350Dallas

One week after the second nationwide global climate strike on Black Friday, Nov. 29, youth climate strikers and activists, joined by allies from across DFW, will march and host a Greater Dallas Climate Action Strike/Rally in front of Dallas City Hall. The rally marks a day of global action as world leaders gather at COP25, the United Nation’s annual climate change conference in Madrid, Spain to fully develop the implementation guidelines of the 2015 Paris Agreement. President Trump has recently notified the UN, stating he intends to withdraw the U.S. from the Paris Agreement, making the U.S. the only country in the world which would not be part of the climate plan to keep warming to 1.5 degrees.

Youth from Townview High School, along with other local schools, environmental organizations, and citizen groups, will call upon cities, counties, school districts, public transit, businesses, and individuals within the DFW metroplex to take immediate and strong action on climate change. They will thank the City of Dallas for moving forward on a Comprehensive Environmental and Climate Action Plan (CECAP) and ask them to adopt effective and equitable solutions with a quick timeline. Recent science has indicated that we have less time than previously thought to slash greenhouse gas emissions before we pass a tipping point triggering abrupt, irreversible and severe climate changes. Students and groups are calling on everyone to take all available actions necessary to address this climate emergency.

The rally and strike are a part of the Fridays For Future and Sunrise Movement with eyes toward building their climate justice momentum into the critical 2020 election year. Fridays For Future's goal is to demand climate action worldwide while the Sunrise Movement's aim is to seek and support candidates who recognize the nation’s current climate emergency, embrace the Green New Deal, and commit to stand up to secure a safe and livable future for all nationwide.
