EPA: Lead Service Line Identification and Replacement - Webinar

EPA Office of Water is hosting a series of quarterly webinars highlighting challenges and successes in lead service line identification and replacement. The webinar series showcases how states and public water systems have successfully identified lead service lines and shared that information with the public to raise awareness about the presence of lead service lines in their communities.

Texas Master Naturalist, Elm Fork Chapter: Training Program (Deadline July 26) - Denton

Applications are being accepted for this year’s Texas Master Naturalist-Elm Fork Chapter training program. The 12-week training program starts on Aug. 27 and goes through Nov. 12. Each session is six hours of study on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The course includes four field trips; Clear Creek Natural Heritage Center, Ray Roberts Lake State Park, Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area and the City of Denton’s Water Reclamation facility. 

Each classroom session focuses on a unit from the extensive Texas Master Naturalist textbook, edited by representatives from Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and Texas Parks and Wildlife, which each member-in-training will receive. 

Sessions include topics such as Ecological Regions of Texas, Geology and Soils of Texas, Archeology, Native Plants, Ornithology, Herpetology, Aquatic Systems, Texas Water Resources Download the training application.

$150 and includes all training materials, classroom instruction, field trips and first year membership with the Texas Master Naturalist-Elm Fork Chapter. 

Payment must be made at the time the application is submitted. Once submitted, each application is reviewed. Applicants will be notified upon acceptance. Enrollment is limited to 30.

Groundwork Dallas: Parks Cleanup Volunteer Opportunity - Dallas (Every Saturday)

FIRST SATURDAY OF THE MONTH, 9 a.m. to noon

Join Groundwork Dallas at Hines Park, a hidden gem along Harry Hines Blvd. Help protect the park’s water feature, a haven for migratory birds as well as egrets and heron, by removing litter and debris.

Where:  Harry Hines Park, near the intersection of Harry Hines Blvd and Webb Chapel Extension. Parking is in the Xenco Laboratories Lot at 9701 Harry Hines Blvd, Dallas TX 75220

Please wear closed-toe shoes, pants, high socks and long sleeves.

Join Groundwork Dallas at Frasier Dam Recreation Area, a unique 116-acre urban wilderness. Help us restore and improve this area through litter clean-up and removal, trail building, and maintenance.

Where: 9300 Stemmons Fwy, Dallas, TX 75247. Take the I-35 South ramp off of Harry Hines Blvd; entrance is to the right just under the bridge.

North Texas Water Garden Society: Annual Tour of Ponds - DFW

The North Texas Water Garden Society pond tour features 40 ponds across DFW. Go to NTWGS.org to purchase a tour guide for $20, which entitles a whole carload of people to tour for the weekend, June 8-9, Saturday from 9  a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday night from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Groundwork Dallas: Trinity River Clean Up Paddling Trip - Dallas

Groundwork Dallas, Dallas Downriver Club and Trinity Nature Conservancy, will lead a 5-mile trip down the Elm Fork of the Trinity River, picking up trash along the way, before landing at the Frasier Dam Recreation Area. A cookout and music will await paddlers leaving the water. 

This event, coordinated by the Dallas Downviver Club, is part of an effort by The Trinity Nature Conservancy and Groundwork Dallas to both improve the beauty of the Elm Fork, and encourage use of a newly improved paddling trail.
