Volunteers sought for Stream Clean, an annual event that improves the appearance of the city and impacts quality of life by targeting specific waterways in and around Denton. When litter makes its way into our storm drains and drainage ditches, it doesn't stop there - it ends up in our lakes, streams and rivers.
A chance for residents to bring in their old, bulky items that are too large to set out for regular curbside pickup and their boxes of materials to be shredded free of cost to the Environmental Collection Center, 616 S. Wisteria St. Mansfield.

Learn about the importance of our endangered Blackland Prairie. How did it help settlers? Why do we need this grassland?
• Tours of the restored prairie, pavilions focused on how the prairie helps us, animals that need it, and cool stuff you can do with plants!
• Meet education raptors up-close and take a guided hike through Blackland Prairie. Raptor program at 10am, guided prairie hike at 11am.
• Touch wings and talons, see how important they are to birds of prey.

Join residents of the Lake Como area and their partners for a great morning of fishing, cleaning litter out of the lake and environmental education. All litter cleanup materials provided.
BYOK - bring your own kayak if you would like to get out on the water. UPDATE - Backwoods will be providing some kayaks for the water cleanup!
BYOW - bring your own waders to help with the shoreline cleanup. Everyone else can help clean the park to prevent that litter from winding up in the lake.
KFWB will be on hand to talk about the city's environmental programs. Texas Parks and Wildlife will be talking about their conservation efforts.
This workshop provides an introduction to the world of grasses found in the prairies, savannas, and woodlands of North Texas. The focus will be on field identification of grasses by their distinguishing physical characteristics. It will include an overview of basic terminology related to the parts of the grass plant, a brief discussion of taxonomic classification, discussion of the significance of various grass species, their potential values, and the ecosystem services they provide.

Do you enjoy being outdoors and speaking with audiences of all ages? Become a Roving Naturalist and share information with visitors in high use areas of the Refuge through one-on-one natural history interpretation. This training will focus on presentations at the Marsh Boardwalk.
