Guests can enjoy beer samples, a cooking demonstration on how to prepare craft sausages, live music and Elliot's Hardware will be showcasing grills at A Tasteful Place. Young Chefs Academy presents a parent and child hands-on cooking class in the demonstration kitchen in A Tasteful Place on June 17 at 1 p.m. (Visit www.dallasarboretum.org/named-gardens-features/a-tasteful-place to register.) The Rory Meyers Children's Adventure Garden will be hosting a puppet show and a Super Dads craft corner all weekend long (while supplies last).

Families can take advantage of $2 hot dogs and $2 root beer floats at the Terrace Cafe. Barbecue and beer will also be available to purchase at Cafe on the Green on Saturday and Sunday. Garden guests are also welcome to enjoy a complimentary wild bird flight show at the Martin Rutchik Concert Stage and Lawn on June 17 at 10:30 a.m. Picnickers are also invited to bring food and drinks or enjoy dining in several picturesque locations throughout the 66-acre garden.

The Photo Tour lets the photographer catch the dusk light, which is the best light possible for afternoon photos. The tours will go through Fossil Rim’s 1,800 acres of pastures. There are 50-plus species of animals at Fossil Rim. Some of the animals that may be photographed include white rhinos, blackbuck, European red deer, gemsbok, zebras, addax, waterbuck, giraffes, sable, axis deer and dama gazelle, just to name a few. Reservations are required. Call 254-897-2960. Camera Club members can receive a 10-percent discount. Private tours are also available for an additional fee. $65 per person.

A new season of monthly star parties in association with Fort Worth Astronomical Society begins next Saturday. Stargazers, skywatchers, astronomers, kids, grownups, singles, couples, groups, all ages welcome. No dogs, please. Free.

HIGHLIGHTS this week: The moon will be a thin waxing crescent, and should be very pretty to see. Venus and Jupiter will be visible all night! Jupiter especially will be in a great viewing position. Saturn comes up close to 9:30 and will probably be a bit murky; July will definitely be the month to view Saturn. Many of the club members also point to various distant objects such as star clusters and double stars
