George W. Bush Presidential Center: Bluebonnet Tours - Dallas (Thru June 2)

Enjoy docent-guided bluebonnet tours in the Native Texas Park on the grounds of the Bush Center. The park features other seasonal wildflowers, native Texas grasses, tree-shaded lawns, and clearings providing habitats for butterflies, birds, and other wildlife. Visitors can explore native Texas environments such as Blackland Prairie, Post Oak Savannah, and Cross Timbers Forest.

The free tours of the Native Texas Park are offered every Saturday at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., weather permitting. Usually lasting between 30 and 40 minutes, visitors are guided through the winding network of walking trails. Space is limited and tours are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Earth X is bigger than ever this year and is seeking volunteers to help out at the giant eco-expo April 20-22 at Fair Park in Dallas. This is a great opportunity to gain experience, network and be part of the world's largest eco-fest. 

Earth X volunteer manager Melinda Garde said there are more than 30 different opportunities available for volunteers.

"Volunteers are the face of EarthX. As a volunteer, you are an integral part of the process of changing the way people think, work and live," said Garde. "Volunteers will engage attendees with fun hands-on activities that teach how to make a difference through science, technology and innovations in thought leading to a sustainable future."

Volunteers get a T-shirt and snacks. There are two shifts: 9 a.m. -2 p.m., 1 p.m.-6 p.m.

Native Plant Society of Texas, Dallas Chapter: Native Landscape Certification Program/Level 1: Intro to Native Landscapes - Dallas

The Native Landscape Certification Program (NLCP) is a four level certification program developed by the Native Plant Society of Texas that teaches the value of including and preserving native plants in landscapes. 

Level 1: Introduction to Native Landscapes 
Level 2: Design and Development with Native Plants 
Level 3: Installation and Maintenance of Native Landscapes 
Level 4: Advocating for Our Native Plant Community (to be developed) 

Participants must complete Level 1 before attending any other level. Levels 2, 3, and 4 may be taken in any order. See website for more details.

Cost: $37-$52.

This will be a tour of a wonderful native prairie that was discovered a few years ago when a century-plus historic church was undergoing renovation. The prairie forms a third facet of this site with a historic cemetery and chapel that were part of the Frankford settlement in the mid-late 1800s.

ColorPalooza will feature a wide variety of exhibits and interactive events with a “spring feel” for the whole family.
