Rita Beving, Public Citizen, Organizer

This longtime environmental activist is one of the hardest working environmental advocates around as a Public Citizen staffer working on behalf of anti-pipeline activists. Although she's based in Dallas, she has to be on the road constantly in East Texas, where the Keystone pipeline branch is being built. Despite competing with the Dallas gas drilling wars for media attention, she was able to generate news coverage and helped fuel the national campaign. Rita has been either a volunteer or staff person for environmental issues in DFW for more than two decades now, but this might have been her most difficult assignment. She did it with aplomb and effectiveness.

Kevin Lefebvre, City of Dallas, Sustainability Coordinator

As the sustainability coordinator for the Office of Environmental Quality, Kevin is a champion for sustainability for the city of Dallas. He oversees and crafts the city’s sustainability plan, networks with other cities in DFW and across the U.S, manages GreenDallas content and social media and participates in public outreach, such as speaking at schools and civic clubs. With staff, he works on increasing awareness about community gardens and modifying city code to allow for more gardening. He also works with staff on public policy initiatives to build a more sustainable Dallas

Sharon Wilson, Earthworks, Organizer

Sharon was doing anti-fracking work when anti-fracking work wasn't cool. First as a homeowner and a blogger, then as an organizer for EarthWorks' Texas Oil and Gas Accountability Project, Sharon has devoted all of her time and energy to helping victims of fracking and helping prevent more victims of fracking. Sharon is a full-time organizer for gas issues in North Texas.  Known simply as "Texas Sharon," she is relied upon nationwide as a source of information. DFW is lucky to have such a valuable resource in its own backyard.
