Learn about the nearly yearlong pipeline protest that captured the world's attention when Green Source DFW and its parent organization, the Memnosyne Institute, hosts a free screening of Awake, a film about Standing Rock, on Nov. 20 in Dallas.

The documentary, a collab­oration between director Myron Dewey, executive producer Doug Good Feather and environmental Oscar nominated filmmakers Josh Fox and James Spione, follows Native American protests of the Dakota Access Pipeline near the Standing Rock Indian Reservation.

“The battle that began at Standing Rock is a battle for the soul of America, and it is far from over,” said Fox, in a written statement.

In Dallas, the Society of Native Nations, with support from local groups including the Coalition for Environmental Justice - North Texas; Codepink; Dallas Peace and Justice Center; Democratic Socialists of America - North Texas; Earthworks; Veterans for Peace; and System Change, Not Climate Change have led protests targeting Dallas-based Energy Transfer Partners, the corporation that oversees the Dakota Access pipeline.  

In addition, the Memnosyne Institute provided some aid for the DAPL protestors in North Dakota, including tents for their legal team.

“Many of the organizations and individuals who have fought people's right to clean water are based in Texas and similar fights are currently occuring all over the globe, in our country and state,” said Coke Buchanan, the director of the Memnosyne Institute's Center for Global Outreach, via Facebook. “Please come witness the fight that has linked environmentalists and human rights activists together and what it means for us all.”
