Walking into this trendy little mani-pedi salon tucked away in an eco-friendly shopping area on Sylvan Avenue in Oak Cliff, you notice something missing.

It’s the harsh smells of chemicals that permeate so many salons these days.

Pink Pedi SalonWelcome to Pink Pedi Salon, one of the only all natural, eco-friendly, toxin and fume-free salons in Dallas.

Owners Lucy and Brandon Lyon have made sure of that.

With a high ceiling and exposed walls that offer up positive messages alongside baskets of scented bath bombs and lotions, Pink Pedi Salon is not only good for your health, it’s also good for the soul.

When they opened the salon last February, the husband and wife team found the perfect location in Sylvan Thirty, a new LEED certified development.

“We loved the current tenants, specifically Juice, who are aligned with our brand of health-focus and the neighborhood of West Dallas,” said Lucy.

The salon took a cue from Sylvan Thirty and became LEED certified too.

Being LEED certified meant the Lyons had to incorporate a variety of building adjustments.

“Pink Pedi used recycled materials in the construction of the salon,” Lucy Lyon said. “All of the wood is reclaimed and specifically designed for Pink Pedi. We reuse our jars and use recycled card stock for all our packaging.”

Pink Pedi SalonAccording to Pink Pedi’s website, the salon is the first and only nail salon in Dallas to carry the entire line of OPI’s Infinite Shine hybrid collection, which is endorsed by the eco-friendly blog Care2.com and listed as a "three-free" product, meaning it’s free of toxic toluene, dibutyl phthalate and formaldehyde. The salon also carries all Zoya nail products, a beauty line completely free of the five cancer-causing chemicals – formaldehyde, toluene, camphor, camphor resin and dibutyl phthalate.

The salon offers waxing as well as a variety of hands and feet treatments from a simple manicure to a Pretty with Pink treatment or the big time V.I.P. service involving 90 minutes with a sugar scrub and body butter, a neck and shoulder massage, nail shaping, cuticle care and even a foot-facial mud mask. Add to that a mini bottle of pink sparkling wine and the experience is bliss.

Creative Roots

Before the Lyons decided to open Pink Pedi Salon, Lucy was designing gowns and women’s apparel under her own line that was carried at several stores nationwide.

Pink Pedi Salon chalkboardBrandon was in fashion photography and advertising. Their paths crossed, they became friends and fell in love. Several years later they decided to start a business together and the idea of a nontoxic nail salon presented itself and became a reality.

Both of the owners are creative and innovative coming from the fashion world so when they ventured into the nail business, they did it with the same flair. Adding the eco-friendly component, created a business that’s all about care and purpose on every level.

“There wasn’t a nail salon in the Dallas area that was completely healthy for people and the planet,” Lyon said. “Why not have an eco-friendly, toxin/chemical- and fume-free salon – where you can get the same treatments and services without sacrificing your health or the environment?”

It's a question they take pride in having asked and now, seeing the seats in the salon full, one they realize they found the perfect answer for.
