When mother of two and McKinney resident Kristian Sextro decided she wanted to open a spa late last year, she knew it had to be organic.   Sextro, who had worked for two years at a laser skin care medical spa before moving to a greener spa environment to learn more about organic products, finally decided it was time last October to forge out on her own. It was then that Sextro opened Pavitra Organic Skincare Retreat in McKinney.

Loving the look, feel, history and nostalgia of downtown McKinney, Sextro believes she chose just the right location too since the city has worked hard to preserve the area where Pavitra calls home.  “I really feel the unique atmosphere of downtown McKinney relates to the concept of Pavitra organic retreat,” she adds.  “Pavitra means “pure” in Sanskrit,” Sextro explains.  “It was an obvious choice for a name since my goal is to make sure my clients get an eco-friendly environment all the time.”

Sextro says she made her organic lifestyle choice after having her first child.
“I realized how fragile life is and how important it is to protect the planet and conserve the Earth’s resources. To me having an organic life style is using these natural and pure ingredients that are for living, as well as recycling and re-using as much as I can to preserve the environment.”

About as green as you can get in a spa, Pavitra’s skincare products are 100% all natural and cruelty free, the furniture is all natural and even the robes and linens are organic.
“Having a green philosophy is important to me,” she says adding she’s even changed over to a service that uses a 100 percent wind powered internet service and she’s constantly recycling anything she can.

Offering clients five percent off services if they bring back their empty product containers for recycling Sextro says her most popular treatment from the various facials and massages she offers is the Beautifully Organic Peel, which she organically customizes per customer.
“It improves circulation,” she explains “and helps detoxify impurities and it helps reveal a smoother complexion and all using organic products so it’s great.”               

“People need to be environmentally aware of the products they are using,” Sextro concludes. “Do they know the effects they [the products] have on their health and the environment, usually not.”
