'The Living Coast' rescheduled for June 14

The Austin-based orchestral rock group Montopolis has rescheduled the multi-media show live in Dallas for June 14.

March 16, 2020

Green Source DFW, and its parent nonprofit, the Memnosyne Institute, and The Dallas Sierra Club are rescheduling The Living Coast performance by Montopolis.

The Austin-based band was set to bring its multi-media environmental show to the Texas Theatre in Dallas this week.

However, to align with county and federal guidelines to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus, we are canceling this event.

“Everyone that has already purchased tickets for March 22 will receive a refund by Monday,” said Justin Sherburn, director of Montopolis,.

Sherburn is urging folks to go to the Facebook event page and click  “going” so that we can notify you when tickets go on sale for the June concert, barring any new developments in the health crisis.

For those unfamiliar with Montopolis, the orchestral rock group features members from the Austin Symphony Orchestra, Okkervil River and the Polyphonic Spree, performing original music with a live narrator and a multi-media montage of images of iconic Texas landscapes. The shows are aimed at creating passion for regional ecosystems threatened by development and climate change.

MontopolisMontopolis features top-notch musicians from the Austin music community.

The Living Coast includes film by Anlo Sepulveda, and archival photography of the Great Galveston Hurricane, the deadliest storm in U.S. history, to create a mediation on the Texas Gulf Coast's environmental landscape.

“Surfers and sailors, shrimpers and oilmen, poets and scientists all share their stories in interviews about this complicated region of serene beauty, vast industry and incredible contradictions,” reads the show’s description.

According to Sherburn, the show was a natural progression after having created works inspired by other iconic Texas landscapes, including Enchanted Rock and Big Bend National Park.

“A cinemaphotographer I had worked with on a previous show was from the Corpus Christie area," said Sherburn, a Fort Worth native. "He knew all the places to go. He's a surfer. And so he was really instrumental in pushing us in that direction to do the Coast show."

Montopolis performed The Legend of Big Bend at the Green Source DFW Awards show in November.

“Their previous performance was very well received and the new show promises to be even better,” said Wendel Withrow, Green Source DFW director. “It will be a great kick off to the 50th anniversary of Earth Day! You don't want to miss this masterful combination of original music , great photography and environmental concern.”
