The inaugural Green Source DFW Run for the Environment 5K drew a chipper crowd on the overcast, chilly day at Cedar Hill State Park on Saturday.
With more than 100 people registered for the event, environmental advocates and running enthusiasts of all ages turned out to help kick off what organizers hope will became an annual event.
“Could not have been a better place for a run: scenic vistas and quiet roads,” posted GSDFW columnist Amy Martin after the event.

"It was terrific," said Philllp Shinoda, GSDFW founder and race organizer. "The weather was perfect."
Many people brought their pooches, who appeared to give the venue a paws up as they jostled, sniffed and barked near the start line.
Recycle Revolution cofounder Eddie Lott and friend set the mood with a soothing duet on guitar and cello out of their van. Meanwhile, Dan Lepinski’s solar shuttle provided clean power for the musicians and the race timers, who were able to forego using a diesel generator.
In addition, several green vendors cheerily displayed their wares despite the nippy weather with Kroger providing fresh fruit, water and organic snack bars.

As for who won the race, it wasn’t learned until the first runners crossed the finish line at record time that due to some misdirection on the winding course, some participants were not able to complete the whole run.
However, those who were there to enjoy the outdoors and mingle with the green crowd seemed happy as they picked up their goodie bags, which included chinquapin oaks donated from Preservation Tree and the Texas Trees Foundation.
