More North Texans will soon able to afford a Tesla after the company announced that a lower cost model is on the way. And Tesla is gearing up to sell them.

The Dallas Morning News reported on Monday that Tesla will add a new showroom at Legacy West Urban Village in Plano, making it the fourth North Texas gallery for the electric vehicle manufacturer, based in California. Tesla recently opened a showroom and service center on Cedar Springs Road near Love Field in Dallas. Earlier this year, Tesla opened a gallery in Fort Worth at University Park Village, just south of I-30 near the Colonial Country Club. Tesla also has a showroom in Northpark Center in Dallas.

“The Tesla University Park gallery joins Tesla’s Northpark and Cedar Springs galleries in Dallas to support increased demand for Tesla vehicles in the area,” said Sonia Koch, a Tesla spokesperson.

According to the Star-Telegram, more than 2,000 Teslas have been sold in Texas.

The new venues are being added just as Tesla is set to roll out a lower cost model of its high-end EV in 2017. While the Tesla price tag of $70,000 to $105,000 has put the electric vehicle out of range for most North Texans, the company is already accepting reservations for its Model 3, starting at half the cost at $35,000.

The vehicles still must be ordered online and the cars are delivered to the customer service center in Cedar Springs center. At the last Legislative session, Tesla failed to get legislation passed that would have allowed the direct-sale company company to sell the vehicles legally in Texas without a traditional dealership in the state.

At the Dallas and Fort Worth galleries, visitors can check out options available and talk with sales reps about the EV that is touted for its nearly 300-mile battery range. Test drives are by appointment only.

“Prospective customers can learn about the $70,000-plus, cutting-edge vehicles by talking with Tesla associates on-site, or by viewing the many educational displays,” Koch said.
