The Dallas Green Alliance was celebrating its victories following the Dallas City Council runoff election on Saturday.

"I'm really proud of the progressive green residents of Dallas," said Dallas Green Alliance chair Cherelle Blazer. "I feel like we had a huge effect on the elections."

The green political action committee formed last summer with a mission to fill at least four of the six open Dallas City Council seats with environmentally friendly candidates.

Over the course of the election, three candidates backed by the Dallas Green Alliance were elected – Carolyn King Arnold in District 4, Mark Clayton in District 9 and Adam McGough in District 10. They join four environmentally friendly Dallas City Council members – Scott Griggs, Adam Medrano, Phillip Kingston and Sandy Greyson.

According to Claudia Meyer, a Dallas Green Alliance steering committee member, with seven green-leaning city council members now in place, they came close to meeting their goal of getting a majority of eight members on their side.

"That's quite an accomplishment for the first time out doing this," said Meyer. "We helped push environmental issues on the agenda."

Blazer added that's she looking forward to working with the new city council, even those the Dallas Green Alliance didn't back.

"I’m feeling pretty optimistic about it," said Blazer.
