The North Central Texas Council of Governments will present several transportation funding initiatives, an electric vehicle update and work program modifications during public meetings in September.

Residents can provide input on local bond program partnerships, two Federal Transit Administration funding programs and the Unified Planning Work Program at meetings on Sept. 11 (White Settlement), Sept. 13 (Arlington) and Sept. 18 (Lewisville).

Texas director David Foster will discuss Clean Water Fund’s role in the region regarding North Texas water conservation initiatives.

At the semiannual YardSmart seminar, attendees will hear from well-known local experts on topics such as winter vegetables, trees and composting. Attendees can question a panel of experts about gardening issues during the Ask the Experts session. A garden tour will follow at 1 p.m.

The annual Green Source DFW Sustainable Leadership Awards honors North Texas' green businesses, professionals, organizations, nonprofits and volunteers. 

This year's honorary speaker is Lee Stetson as John Muir.

Dallas Water Utilities is accepting entries for its 23rd annual Water-Wise Landscape Tour. The tour to be held on Saturday, October 14, 2017, educates the public on the beauty and water savings of landscapes that utilize native and adapted plants that are drought tolerant and need little supplemental water. See website for entry information and judging criteria to enter your landscape in this year’s tour.

Learn the basics and benefits of rainwater harvesting and the effects stormwater has on the environment. Participants will learn how to collect and utilize rainwater at home and have the opportunity to construct their own 55-gallon rain barrel.

Vote for your favorite green volunteers and leaders in North Texas. The top three finalists will be judged by a panel. Winners will be announced at the Green Source DFW Sustainable Leadership Awards on Nov. 3 at the Dallas Arboretum. 

The Memnosyne Institute's Green Source DFW Sustainable Leadership Awards was launched in 2012 and has since honored many outstanding green leaders in North Texas.
