UT Arlington: Microgrids & Energy Storage - Arlington

Feb 9 2016 - 1:00pm to Feb 10 2016 - 5:30pm
University of Texas at Arlington
College of Engineering
Arlington , TX

Everything is bigger in Texas, and our energy challenges are growing just as they are around the country. The deployment of microgrids with energy storage has the potential to help alleviate Texas’s energy challenges but we can’t have one without the other. While both microgrids and energy storage have matured significantly, there are still many technological barriers that need to be overcome for each to see its true potential in solving our energy problems. The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) and Oncor Electric Delivery, in conjunction with the Argonne National Laboratory led Joint Center for Energy Storage Research (JCESR), will host a regional event to explore challenges and opportunities of these technologies. This event will serve as a forum for industry, utility companies, academic and government researchers and policy makers to discuss energy storage and potential major applications facing Texas and the South Central region at both the transmission and the distribution level.

This one and a half day event will offer tours of Oncor’s new 660 kW microgrid in Lancaster, Texas as well as UTA’s microgrid and energy storage characterization facilities.
