Eco-friendly crafts will be among the wares sold by artisans when Arlington hosts the first sister market location of the Santa Fe International Folk Art Market. The fair was voted the Best Art Festival in America by USA Today.

International Folk MarketAfter a ticketed VIP shopping event on Friday, the market will open Saturday, June 17, at the Green at College Park on The University of Texas at Arlington campus. The market will feature 35 master artists selling their handmade artwork, jewelry, textiles, home goods and more from such diverse countries as Italy, Ghana, Uzbekistan, Nigeria, Ukraine, South Sudan, Myanmar and Peru, among others. Tickets range from $10-$25 on Saturday with free admission 6 to 8 p.m.

According to Bob Pruitt, a spokesperson for the event, the fair has a green element to it.

International Folk Market artist“Some of the art is made from recycled and repurposed products like barrels, and other discarded metal pieces. Sustainability is a big feature with many of these pieces as they are constructed from grasses from their area (baskets & hats) and wool and/or vegetation for fiber from livestock and area plants, then dyed with natural elements to create the rich natural color pigments. Some wooden pieces may be constructed from drift wood. All of these materials are sourced in the area(s) where they live and the techniques date back for generations.”

The Market will include internationally inspired food and entertainment and one of a kind artwork for sale. See a list of participating artists here

The International Folk Art Market | Santa Fe, a program of the International Folk Art Alliance, was created in part to help artists from around the world become successful entrepreneurs, while preserving and promoting art forms and cultures indigenous to their respective communities. The founding of the Santa Fe International Folk Art Market at Arlington continues this tradition by providing more opportunities for artists to succeed.
