In September, the heat subsides and in North Texas fall can be as invigorating as spring. It’s also when another round of green festivals crop up. Here’s a list of the some of big eco-friendly events on the calender in the coming months: 

 

Sept. 17

DFW: Thirsting for Our Water Future - Richardson, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This is the first year for this water-themed conference hosted by Clean Water Fund. The event features speakers on the current state of Texas' water supply, saving water, using native & drought resistant plants, climate change & water, water resources threats and aquifer storage. National Drive Electric Week - Grapevine, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Hosted by North Texas Central Council of Governments and DFW Clean Cities Coalition, the event at Grapevine Mills Mall showcases electric vehicles, offering opportunities to ask questions and test drive them. 

 

Arlington EcofestEcofest Arlington, 10 a.m. to  2 p.m.

Annual family friendly green fest featuring green vendors, organizations, classes, live music and children’s activities. The city will be giving away trees while supplies last. Free.

 

Sept. 22

North Texas Giving Day, 6 a.m. to midnight

Online charity fundraiser that matches donations to local charities including many environmental and animal welfare organizations.

 

Sept. 24

Live Well/Go Green Expo - Garland, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

In addition to exhibitors, the event hosted by the city of Garland will offer recycling of e-waste, medical equipment, household goods, eyeglasses, meds as well as document shredding. The H20 5K starts at 8:15 a.m..

 

F.A.R.M. logoGreen Fest - Dallas, 10 a.m. to  2 p.m.

Hosted by the city of Dallas, the eco-friendly green expo has moved to a new location this year - the site of the new Farmers Assisting Returning Military Urban Farm on Good Latimer Road. F.A.R.M. and their partner organization, Eat the Yard, will be converting it into a community gathering space with a greenhouse, raised planting beds, outdoor classrooms and more to help our returning veterans learn new skills in a therapeutic setting. 

 

Greenfest  - Denton County, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The annual festival is hosted by the Greenbelt Alliance celebrating outdoor family fun. Attendees can test their skills at archery, climbing, kayaking, biking, and geo-caching or view demonstrations by craftsmen of the Cross Timbers eco-region.

Monarch butterfly releases, parade, kite flying, arts & crafts, bounce house, costume contest.

Oct. 1

Sustainable Home & Garden Tour - Coppell, 8 a.m. to noon.

An evolution of the annual Smartscape Tour of Coppell, the Sustainable Home and Garden Tour is expanding to include features such as solar, rain water catchments, compost methods and backyard habitats in addition to Smartscape design. Tour goers who visit all five stops can complete a scavenger hunt that will qualify them to win a rain barrel or compost bin from the city of Coppell. Pick up a map from Helping Hands Community Garden between 8 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. The first 100 people will receive a green living giveaway. Free. 

 

DFW Solar Tour Environmental Education Center DFW Solar Tour - North Texas, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Hosted by the North Texas Renewable Energy Group, the 7th annual free self-guided tour features homes, businesses and municipal buildings across North Texas with solar panels and other renewable features. This year, the event will include the Environmental Education Center in Plano, designed by Dallas green architect Gary Olp.

 

Oct. 15

Butterfly Flutterby - Grapevine, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Butterfly costume parade, exhibits, crafts, scavenger hunt at Grapevine Botanical Gardens.

 

Oct. 16

Art in the MeadowArt in the Meadow - Allen, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The Connemara Conservancy and Allen Arts Alliance are partnering for this family event featuring 10 local artists whose nature-inspired work will be available for purchase in the Connemara Meadow Pecan Grove. In addition, there will be music as well as a family activities including a pumpkin patch for photos, face painters, nature walks, hayrides, mazes and other Fall related activities. Free.

Oct. 22 

Earth, Wind & Fire Conference - Addison, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The second annual Earth, Wind, & Fire Summit hosted by the Dallas Sierra Club features topics and speakers that will address some of the most talked about energy issues of the day. Early registration before Oct. 1 is $55. $75 day of conference. 

 

Texas Veggie Fair - Dallas, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Popular plant-based fair in Reverchon Park featuring vegan food, vendors, speakers, live music and educational booths.

 

Green Source DFW Sustainable Leadership Awards Howard GarrettNov. 3 

Green Source DFW Sustainable Leadership Awards - Dallas, 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Memnosyne Institute hosts the fifth annual awards dinner at the Dallas Arboretum honoring green nonprofits, businesses and volunteers throughout North Texas. This year’s event features organic gardening pioneer Howard Garrett, who will be receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award. $35-$75.

 

Nov. 5 

The Great Seed BombThe Great Seed Bomb - Fort Worth, 1 p.m.

The second annual 15K fun bike ride along the Trinity Trails in Fort Worth promotes bees, monarchs and other pollinators. During the ride, seed balls – made of clay, organic compost and native, non-GMO milkweed and wildflower seed – are launched from bikes by riders. The also event features an eco party, experiential learning stops, costume contest and vendors. $20-$40

 

Nov. 13

Run with the Sun - Dallas

A new fundraiser hosted by the North Texas Renewable Energy Group featuring a 5K, 10K and Family Fun Run/Walk 3K at Bachman Lake Park, benefiting the Dallas Lighthouse for Blind. The fundraising goal is $75,000.  $15-$35.
