It's no secret that many self-employed people use coffee shops as their personal workspaces – copping free wifi and meeting with clients without having to rent office space. A new venue in Fort Worth encourages that workstyle while catering to the coworking trend that has been growing in North Texas. Last month, two Austin transplants Riley Kiltz and Collin Sansom combined a coworking space and coffee bar with the opening of Craftwork Coffee Co. located on Camp Bowie Boulevard.

Since its opening on Jan. 2, co-owner Kiltz says Craftwork Coffee Co. joins the ranks of a few other local coworking spaces in Fort Worth like CoLAB and the Backlot.

“However, coworking is a little different than what we do at Craftwork,” Kiltz explains. “We started Craftwork to create the ideal workspace that has a balance of energy, control and community.”

Kiltz says that coworking is most commonly known as the open workspace setup where people work alongside each other, both collaboratively or not.

“It tends to be noisy and a little chaotic,” he adds. “We love the heart behind coworking and getting people into community, but long-term we believe people need more control for their work environment.”

Kiltz says the Craftwork Coffee Co. workspaces are different from the current “traditional” coworking workspaces because of its combination of public and private venues.

“Our workspaces have energy without chaos and control without being stale,” he said

Walking into Craftwork Coffee Co., patrons will find that the front of the business is a coffee shop that is open to the general public seven days a week. To use the workspace area, you must become a member. There are three membership levels; Social, Solo and Team.

Social, which has a $150 price tag, includes access to the common areas, conference rooms and mail service. Solo is $700 and adds an individual fully furnished suite while the $900 Team level includes everything from the Social and Solo membership level and adds a larger suite for two workspace members.

Clients also get a 15 percent discount on all items in the coffee shop.

Kiltz and Sansom enlisted Palletsmart, a company which uses upcycled pallets, to help them build the place too. Kiltz says Palletsmart ended up building just about everything.

“They have their hand on just about every part of our space,” he says. “They built the fascia of the coffee bar, all our café tables, our coffee shop bench, our community table, our workspace desks, our community table and conference room table.”

Other eco-friendly elements that the owners have added to the business include coffee sleeves that use recycled materials and recyclable coffee cups. Kitchen orders show up on a screen instead of on printed paper and the coworking suites use light fixtures and sconces that are made out of recycled materials.

Crafwork Coffee Co. is open Monday to Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Sunday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at 4731 Camp Bowie Blvd.
